The 2013 spring auction season is under way and there are likely to be a number of price records broken.
28.86 carat D-color, flawless diamond sold by Sotheby’s on April 8 in Hong Kong.
The first record has already fallen with the sale of a D-color, flawless, 28.86 carat round diamond at the Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale by Sotheby’s on April 8 in Hong Kong. With a hammer price of US$6.9 million, a new record for price per carat of a white round diamond has been set at $239,352.
74.79 carat D-color, VVSI diamond offered by Sotheby’s on April 17 in New York.
Sotheby’s is also holding a Magnificent Jewels sale in New York on April 17 and one in Geneva on May 14. The New York sale is led by a pear-shaped 74.79 carat D-color, VVSI white diamond and also features a number of other large diamonds. The Geneva sale will include the Gina Lollobrigida Bulgari jewels that I wrote about previously, as well as a number of other notable pieces such as a 75 carat yellow diamond and a flawless, D-color, cushion-cut 27.90 carat white diamond.

Christie’s is holding two major auctions this spring, one in New York on April 16 and one in Geneva on May 15. The New York sale is featuring the Princie Diamond, a famous 34.65 carat pink diamond, as well as a number of other showstopping pieces such as an emerald and diamond Harry Winston necklace.
